We know that this isnt working so well, but its at least better than nothing, or else ppl will just sign up look at the stuff and never share their own knowledge with any one because they never posted and dont want to start now

I suggest, if there is a feature in vbulletin that would make it easy and fast, to remove the one post viewing but instead, delete ID's with 0 (or any other set number) posts within the first (or second, or thired, or fourth) week they singed up.
Another option is to have (force) people make a first thread in the introduction section.
